The Executive Director of Rights of Youth and Disability International, James Kwabena Bomfeh Jnr., PhD. has called for the resignation of the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, over what he describes as the Attorney-General’s double standards in the ongoing legal impasse between the A-G’s office and the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
The conversation surrounding the OSP and its legitimacy was resurrected after the High Court in Accra, presided over by Justice Eugene Nyadu Nyante, declared that cases being handled by the OSP are null and void on the basis that the OSP lacks prosecutorial powers. The court further directed the A-G to take over all cases being prosecuted by the OSP.
Speaking to the issue on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show on Wednesday, April 22, Kwabena Bomfeh, popularly known as Kabila, posited that the Attorney General, while in opposition at the time when the OSP was created, though saw the loopholes in the Special Prosecutors Act, failed to pursue the legal amendments.
“The Attorney-General cannot be exonerated from the blame being apportioned to the Special Prosecutor”, Dr. Bomfeh said.
“If Dr. Ayine has any dignity, he should have resigned. Dr. Ayine, since he assumed office in 2025, has entered Nolle Prosequi for about 12 cases for which he was a defense lawyer while in opposition”.
“Dr. Ayine is using the power of the state attorney to his advantage in a private sense. His business then has been personal and partisan, none of which is national in character,” he added.
