The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumi, strongly condemned what he describes as the endless assault on the fundamental rights of officers, activists, and supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Dr. Bawumia noted that the fundamental human rights of NPP supporters are being brutally infringed upon by the government of the National Democratic Congress.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, the former Vice President, Dr. Bawumia, noted that such acts of intimidation have been the arrest, detention, and subsequent release of the Agona West organiser of the NPP, David Essando, for lamenting on social media about the turn of Dumsor, and what he further describes as the bizarre decision to put the NPP Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Bafoe, popularly known as Abronye DC.
“These actions undermine free speech and are setting Ghana’s democracy backwards. I condemn in the strongest of terms, the unholy collaboration between the Executives, state investigative agencies, and some elements within the judiciary to use intimidation and harassment to silence members of the New Patriotic Party,” he said.
Dr Bawumia further served notice to officers of the state who are active participants in what he refers to as an unholy enterprise that the day of accountability will come, and the abuse of state power will be accounted for.
