The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced that Ghana has secured more than US$3.5 billion in investment commitments for its upstream oil and gas sector, a significant development that reflects renewed confidence in the country’s energy industry.

Addressing participants at the Ghana–UK Investment Summit 2026, Dr. Jinapor attributed the achievement to the government’s Reset Agenda, which he said has been instrumental in restoring stability and investor confidence in the sector.

According to the sector Minister, the government assumed office in 2025 amid considerable challenges, including a power supply deficit, declining crude oil production, and weakened investor confidence. He noted that through a combination of strategic policy reforms and sustained engagement with industry stakeholders, the sector has begun to experience a strong recovery.

“Through decisive reforms and sustained investor engagement, we have restored confidence and revitalised Ghana’s energy sector,” he disclosed.

Dr. Jinapor revealed that major drilling activities have resumed, adding that Ghana is expected to record an increase in crude oil production for the first time in nearly six years.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a secure, affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy system through the implementation of the National Energy Policy and the Energy Transition Framework.

The Minister explained that the government’s approach seeks to strike a balance between maximising the value of Ghana’s oil and gas resources and accelerating investments in renewable energy while advancing plans for nuclear power development.

He further highlighted key investment opportunities within the sector, including gas infrastructure development, gas-to-power projects, renewable energy generation, power sector modernisation, and upstream petroleum exploration and production.

According to Dr. Jinapor, these initiatives form part of a broader strategy to position Ghana as a leading energy hub in the region, capable of driving industrialisation, stimulating economic growth, and creating employment opportunities.

He also extended an invitation to international investors and development partners to explore the opportunities emerging within Ghana’s energy landscape.

The Minister emphasised that Ghana remains an attractive destination for long-term investment due to renewed investor confidence, a stable policy environment, ongoing sector reforms, and the government’s commitment to private-sector-led growth.

The Ghana–UK Investment Summit 2026 brought together government officials, investors, business leaders, and development partners to explore strategic investment opportunities and strengthen economic cooperation between Ghana and the United Kingdom.
