Government has urged the public to disregard a viral video circulating on social media that misrepresents President John Dramani Mahama’s remarks about a GH¢150 million flood fund.
In a statement, the Ministry of State in Charge of Government Communications clarified that the figure referred specifically to post-flood mitigation efforts and not the total financial support for flood victims.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State for Government Communications, addressed the issue in a Facebook post on Monday, July 27, stressing that the President’s comments had been deliberately distorted.
“Some misguided elements have sought to distort the President’s words in this video to achieve narrow partisan ends,” he said.
He explained that the President was speaking about the release of GH¢150 million for mitigation works in discussions with the National Security Coordinator.
“The President clearly speaks of the ‘release’ of GHS 150 million, which was in direct reference to funds for post-flood mitigation works.
This is what he was discussing with the National Security Coordinator and nothing more,” he stated.
“Disregard the mischievous lies!” he added.
